Background and approach

Carolyn has worked with young people, adults and their families for over 35 years in outpatient, day and inpatient settings across both public and private sectors, including the Austin Hospital, Travancore Child & Family Centre and the Albert Road Clinic. In private practice Carolyn also enjoys working with young people and
adults individually, as couples, and in their roles as parents and carers of adolescents.

In 1991 Carolyn joined Ramsay Health Care and helped establish the first private Adolescent Psychiatric Unit in Victoria, now well established at the Ramsay Clinic Albert Road. Carolyn was Clinical Manager of the Adolescent Centre for Health (ARCH), a day program for adolescents presenting with mental health issues, with the aim of providing effective treatment while minimising disruption to their education, relationships and everyday lives.

After 10 years, Carolyn, together with colleagues specialising in child and adolescent mental health, established Phoenics Health, a multidisciplinary mental health practice. The collective aim was to provide an accessible, collaborative and compassionate approach to supporting young people, experiencing mental health challenges and their families. After 14 years Phoenics Health closed, and Carolyn has since joined the group at The South Melbourne Consulting Suites.

Alongside her clinical work, Carolyn has lectured in postgraduate training programs at Swinburne and Melbourne Universities and held an Honorary Fellowship at Melbourne University.

As a trained Adolescent Psychotherapist, Relationship and Family Therapist, Carolyn works with individuals and, when appropriate, those who are important in their lives. Her work draws on developmental, systemic, interpersonal and cognitive therapy approaches. Carolyn has extensive experience supporting young people and adults experiencing psychological distress, life transitions, identity development, and relationship difficulties.

Carolyn is committed to providing a safe, respectful and inclusive therapeutic space for people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, family structures, cultural backgrounds and lived experiences. She has experience working with LGBTQ+ individuals, young people and families, and values diversity as central to ethical, effective and compassionate clinical practice.

Carolyn is a registered Occupational Therapist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA). Eligible to provide Medicare – rebatable services.
